Weekend Recap: Highlighting local business

Today I want to share a weekend recap highlighting all the places, people and vendors that made this weekend so much fun!

STUDIO B POWER YOGA

This weekend was a Teacher Training Weekend at STUDIO B, so it was very yoga-focused. Teacher Training kicked off on Friday evening with a more than sold out class followed by a guided yoga nidra with the TT's. To accommodate the number of sold out classes we've experienced lately, I decided to create an Overflow Option. Moving forward, when a class begins to reach the "sold out" limit, an overflow option will appear on the schedule. This will allow students to reserve space in the lounge area. I am hoping this will allow us to accommodate more students until we can fix the problem at a larger level. It's a great problem to have and I am so grateful for the community at STUDIO B.

Guided Meditation for Deep Sleep

I've had a really hard time falling and staying asleep since I left my job.  I used to be so busy and exhausted that it took no effort whatsoever to fall asleep at the end of the day. These days, I'm not so run down, and I've lost my ability to fall asleep before my head hits the pillow. Yoga Nidra with the teacher trainees on Friday evening reminded me of a guided meditation for deep sleep I've used in the past. I decided to play this before I went to sleep on Friday night and It worked like a charm!

The Millworks

On Saturday, after teaching two yoga classes and running sprints with my husband at the track, we got cleaned up and went out to dinner at one of our favorite spots in Harrisburg - The Millworks. The Millworks is a hyper-local farm-to-table restaurant and art space. In addition to the restaurant, thirty one regional artists have studios in the building and are often on hand to give demonstrations and answer questions.

We ordered the same thing we always do, the local grass fed hanger steak over crispy smashed potatoes and summer squash with house made green chile sriracha. It's so good! If you don't like spicy foods though, order it without the sriracha. I also always order the Maggie's Farm from the drink menu which is gin, lime, rosemary and tonic. The Rosemary really does add a nice touch.

Yoga in the Park

On Sunday morning I met the TT's bright and early at Yoga in the Park. YIP is organized by Anne Parmer Yoga and takes place every Sunday (between Memorial Day and Labor Day) from 8-9am at Shank Park in Hershey. It felt so good to practice outside under the hot sun and clear sky. If you are local, you should definitely make it a point to attend one of these classes before the summer is over. They are donation-based and all proceeds go to the American Foundation for Children with Aids, a non-profit organization based right here in Harrisburg. I will be subbing for Anne on Sunday, August 7.

Cocoa Beanery

After YIP, the TT's and I headed down the road to the Cocoa Beanery for coffee, breakfast and discussion. The Cocoa Beanery is a great spot for meeting with friends/coworkers or spending some quiet time to catch up on work or read a book. They serve Square One Coffee which is brewed in Lancaster and is one of my favorite brands of coffee. They support a number of other local brands and have good food options as well. I'm actually writing this blog form Beanery!

Shank's Mare Outfitters

After TT wrapped up I met up with my mom for my favorite summertime activity - Stand Up Paddle Boarding. We don't own paddle boards, but rent them from a local outfitter.  Shank's Mare is located in an 1880's era general store building along the Susquehanna River in Wrightsville. They sell and rent SUP's and kayaks, and hiking and cross country skiing gear. They also have an Outdoor Education Center and often provide guided outings and even adventure camps for kids. It's a really great place and the people who work there are so friendly and helpful

Paddleboarding is one activity I wish I could do everyday. I love being out on the water and it's a great workout. Sunday was my mom's first time trying it and she did pretty well until the end. She had a good time, but said she probably wouldn't do it again.

I was absolutely exhausted after I got home on Sunday and fell asleep around 9pm. Maybe I'm finally back on track with my sleep schedule? We'll see!

I hope you enjoy reading about some of my favorite local businesses and decide to give one or all of them a try. The Harrisburg/Hershey/Lancaster area is full of great, locally-owned businesses to support.
