In my early twenties I had what I thought was my dream job - a fancy title, a corner office and a six-figure salary. The problem? I wasn’t happy. The environment I worked in was toxic and the person I was becoming was unbearable. I started taking yoga to destress and in the process I, “woke up”. It was as if my yoga mat was a mirror showing me exactly who I was showing up as at that point in my life…and I didn’t like what I saw. So I decided to take back control of my life.
I switched jobs and set out on a mission to discover what it was I really wanted to do. This journey took me down a number of paths including Yoga Teacher Training. That training reinforced things I had always known to be true, but had somehow forgotten. It reminded me that I was designed to be up to big things (we all were) and that I had a responsibility to live life on purpose (we all do).
Just a few months after completing Yoga Teacher Training I opened my first yoga studio. I was still working full time (you know, to pay the bills) and commuting, but somehow “figured it out”. None of what I was doing made sense, but to me felt 100% right. After 18 months of side-hustling, I made the scariest professional decision of my life and resigned from yet another great full time job to focus solely on my business.
What’s left out of the story above is all of the fear, BS, failures and moments of almost quitting I experienced along the way. The road that lead me to where I am today was windy and full of ups and downs. It required equal parts hard work and pure faith.
Today I own and operate 3 physical yoga studios and a Registered Yoga School. My online classes are downloaded in over 70 countries. I recently got my Real Estate license and am having so much fun diving into that world. I get to do what I love for a living and part of that is teaching others to do the same. I have learned so much about myself and about life since my first meetings with my yoga mat and feel a strong sense of responsibility to share what I’ve learned. I want to help people break free from the day-to-day grind and start living on purpose too!
